What's the Digital Puppet ?


■ The digital puppet is the simplest controllable robot kit. It consists of a pedestal that moves in two directions, a motor controller, and a PDF file of Paper Craft.

■ Cute puppets of paper craft placed on the pedestal shake their heads and dance.

■ Paper crafts are created by users after downloading (any number of times) their favorite items from this HP.

■ Up to two controllers per controller, but when connected, many puppets can be operated at once. Inversion, delay, recording / playback, and random operation are also possible.

■ It is a derivative of Cube-D.

 




Steps to enjoy


1. Choose your favorite puppet from the download page, download the paper craft PDF, and print it on cardboard (craft paper) with your home printer.

2. Make a puppet with glue and scissors.

3. Connect three cables to the controller.

4. Attach the puppet to the pedestal (insert).

5. Complete!   Insert batteries and power on. The puppet moves freely by controller operation.

How to control the puppet


The controller that moves the puppet is an 8cm x 5cm red board with 1. joystick (2 axis positioning sensor), 2. push-button switch, 3. LED bar (5LED), 4. power supply / connection input connector, 5. connection output connector, 6. pedestal-1 connector , 7. pedestal-2 connector is installed. Other electronic parts such as a microcomputer are mounted on the back, and the power switch is on the battery box side.

Puppet operation uses the joystick in the center of the controller to control the two motors (base and top) of the pedestal. Pressing the stick horizontally changes the rotation angle of the base motor according to the amount of movement, and pressing it vertically changes the rotation angle of the top motor according to the movement amount. Move the stick to the left or right to move the puppet as “No no” or “Yes Yes” when you move it up or down.

If you operate the stick while pressing the push button switch, you can switch the operation mode such as recording and playback. There are four types of input modes for the rotation angle data passed to each motor of pedestal 1. There are seven output modes for generating rotation angle data for pedestal 2 and connecting connector. The LED bar tells you which mode of operation you are currently in with 5 LEDs.

Input mode

Each time the joystick is tilted to the left while pressing the push button SW, the input mode changes (4 types), and the pedestal 1 moves with the data corresponding to the mode. Four input modes are indicated by the two LEDs on the left of the LED bar.

Output mode
Each time the joystick is tilted to the right while pressing the push button SW, the output mode changes (7 types), and the pedestal 2 moves according to the mode. Also, operation information is output to the connected output connector according to the mode. The three LEDs on the right of the LED bar indicate 7 different output modes

Recording mode

When the joystick is tilted up while pressing the push button switch, motion recording starts, and when it is tilted up again, recording ends. Base / top motor angle information and output mode information is recorded every 0.02 seconds and finally written to the flash ROM (up to 20 seconds). The LED flashes during recording.

Concatenate multiple controllers
The number of puppets that can be operated at the same time can be increased by connecting the controllers (connecting the input connector to the output connector). It is possible to operate 4 puppets with 2 connections and 6 puppets with 3 connections (2 times as many puppets as the number of controllers can be operated). Since power is supplied from the connector for connection, no separate power supply is required.

When four controllers are connected and operated in the 0.1 second delay mode, you can enjoy the wave movements associated with 8 puppets.

Currently, 21 types of original paper crafts are available, including different colors (moving eyeballs set with eyeballs and face). One A4 size sheet can be created (production time is about 30 minutes to 2 hours).
